Texture - An App for Magazine Lovers
I love magazines. In the past, I used to get anywhere from 10-20 a month, most of which were fashion, cooking or lifestyle magazines. At a certain point, I realized that I did not have time to read them all and it was becoming difficult to handle the sheer volume of paper around the house, so I reduced my subscriptions to about 3-4, and tablet-editions only. The problem with the tablet editions, is that the new issue often arrives, and I don't even notice, so when I finally think to open the app, I have months of unread magazines with no time to work my way through them.
Just when I had resigned myself to abandoning my love of magazines, I discovered Texture, which has been described as a Netflix for magazines. What a revelation! With Texture, you pay a monthly fee ($9.99 for access to monthly magazines and $14.99 for monthly and weekly magazines) and can access them through an app on iPhone or iPad. You can download the app on up to 5 devices, meaning you can share the account with others members of the family.
Since I downloaded the app earlier this week, I have read the just-released new interview with Jennifer Garner in Vanity Fair, where she discusses the breakup of her marriage to Ben Affleck, played the voyeur as I perused the interiors of Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian's homes in Architectural Digest, got tips for launching a business from Money and gained inspiration from runners, who have recovered from injuries to come back better than ever in Running Times. I love the ability to pick and choose one article in a publication without the guilt I used to feel if I did not read each of my magazines from cover to cover.
Texture offers a 14-day free trial for basic or premium service. If you are a magazine lover, you owe it to yourself to give it a try.
