The December Project Book Two - The Diver's Clothes Lie Empty
I came up with the idea for the December Project when I realized that I had more than 70 unread books on my Kindle. Many of these unread books were purchased because they were on sale for $1.99. While gearing up to start the project, Amazon had a Cyber Monday sale on Kindle books that let me to purchase a few more before the project started. One of these eleventh-hour purchases was The Diver's Clothes Lie Empty, by Vendela Vida. I had wanted to read this book since it came out in June, so I bumped it to the top of the list.
The novel is unusual in that it is told in the second person, and as a result, the reader is pulled into the story in a way that is not typical. Anyone who has traveled alone and experienced the opportunity to re-invent oneself or to carefully craft the persona that they present to total strangers will recognize elements of themselves in the main character.
I liked the book, but at 229 pages, I felt that it could have been longer. I was just starting to get a sense of the main character when it ended rather abruptly. That said, it was very readable, and I had trouble putting it down. The second person styling is not for everyone, though. I would recommend that you try a sample before buying it, but as the Kindle version is still listed at $1.99, it’s not much of a gamble if you do.
